Travel Safety:
On the Road
-
Make sure everyone has their seat belts on. In many
states, it is required
by law - so "click it or ticket!"
-
Using a cell phone while
driving is distracting, if not dangerous. In many states, it is now
against the law to use a cell phone while driving, unless a hands-free
device is used.
-
Do
not challenge aggressive drivers. Speeding up or attempting to hold your
position in your
driving lane could aggravate the situation.
-
Report erratic drivers to the appropriate authorities by providing a
vehicle description,
location, license plate number, and direction of travel.
In Parking
Areas/Rest Stops
-
Be observant and look
around before entering a parking area.
-
Always park in areas with
adequate lighting.
-
Do
not leave valuables out in the open in your vehicle. Even small amounts of
change on
your console could prompt a break-in.
-
Always check your back
seat and rear cargo areas before getting back into your vehicle.
-
Keep your car doors locked
if you are planning to rest in your vehicle.
In
Hotels/Motels
-
Close your hotel/motel door securely whenever you are in your
room and use all
provided locking devices.
-
Check to see that any sliding glass doors or windows and any
connecting room
doors are locked and secured.
-
Don't answer the door in
your hotel/motel room without verifying
who is requesting entry. If a person claims to be an employee of
the hotel, call the front desk and
verify that someone from their staff is suppose to have access to
your room.
-
When returning to your hotel late in the evening, always use the
hotel's main
entrance.
-
Do not draw attention to
yourself by displaying expensive jewelry or large amounts of cash.
-
Place all valuables in the
hotel's safe deposit box.
-
Do not invite strangers to
your room.
-
Avoid displaying your guest room keys in public, and don't carelessly
leave your keys
anywhere they can easily be seen or stolen.
-
If you see any suspicious
action, report your observations to the management.
Play it safe...enjoy your travels!
